I designed and worked on the implementation of Colombia's AI Strategy. I have also contributed to AI public initiatives in Chile, Brazil, Peru and Argentina, and design UNESCO's AI strategy in Latin-America. Currently, I'm a Consultant of CAF-Development Bank of Latin-Amercia in AI policy design and implementation.

Auxane Boch is a doctoral candidate at the Technical University of Munich (TUM) school of management and an associate researcher at the TUM Institute for Ethics in Artificial Intelligence (TUM IEAI). Her research focuses on accountability of AI systems, culture and perception of ethics, social robotics, video games, and education. Additionally, she is a Beyond Fellow at the TUM International Future Lab in the AI for Earth Observation's ethics team. Finally, Auxane works profusely with the Women in AI group, and is a Women in Games ambassador.

Beatriz Botero

Dr. Beatriz Botero Arcila is an Assistant Professor of law in the digital information economy at Sciences Po Law School and Faculty Associate at the Berkman Klein Center for Internet & Society at Harvard University. Her research and expertise focus on data governance in urban environments and how different governance frameworks have different impacts on people's lives. Recent work has explored modes of data governance in smart city projects, the sharing economy, and Covid contact tracing apps. 

She is currently studying surveillance technologies adopted to provide public security both in Europe and the US and how they interact with other public interests (i.e. civil liberties) and institutional frameworks and incentives.

Carlos Affonso Souza

Has a PhD and a Master’s Degree in Civil Law from Rio de Janeiro State University (UERJ). He is a Law professor at UERJ and at Pontifical Catholic University (PUC-Rio), where he teaches Law & Technology, Contract Law, and History of Law. Carlos Affonso is a visiting researcher at the Information Society Project from Yale Law School. He is a member of the Copyright Commission at Rio de Janeiro Bar Exam Institute (OAB/RJ) since 2007 and a Policy Fellow at the nonprofit organization Access. He is a Consultant at the Brazilian Internet Observatory, an initiative that stemmed from the Brazilian Internet Steering Committee (CGI.br). He is one of the Co-founders and a Director of the Institute for Technology & Society of Rio de Janeiro (ITS Rio).

Carolina Rossini is the Director of Partnerships and Research at the Datasphere Initiative. Carolina has more than 20 years of experience in technology and telecom law, policy, and non-profit management, strategy, and development. She is a World Economic Forum Young Global Leader and a Boston University Law School law lecturer. She has worked for companies, including Telefónica and Facebook, and various non-profits, including Public Knowledge, Electronic Frontier Foundation, and Wikimedia Foundation. She worked for Prof. Yochai Benkler as a 3-year fellow and Project Coordinator at the Berkman Klein Center at Harvard University. She is the co-founder of and serves as a senior advisor to Portulans Institute, where she was the CEO for its 2 first years, and is a board member of InternetLab (Brazil), Derechos Digitales (Chile), #IamtheCode (Global), and Instituto EducaDigital (Brazil). She is a lawyer, who graduated from the University of Sao Paulo – FADUSP (2000). She has the following Master’s degrees: MBA from Instituto de Empresa (2004), International Economic Relations (Santiago Dantas – UNICAMP/UNESP – 2005), LL.M. in Intellectual Property from Boston University (2008).

Celina Bottino

Celina has a Master’s Degree in Human Rights from Harvard University and Undergraduate Degree in Law from Pontifical Catholic University (PUC-Rio). She is an expert on human rights and technology. She was a researcher at the Human Rights Watch in New York and a Supervisor at the Human Rights Clinic in Fundação Getulio Vargas (FGV Rio). Celina was a consultant for the Harvard Human Rights Clinic and a researcher at ISER. An Associate of the Children’s and Adolescent’s Rights Protection in Rio de Janeiro. Celina is currently developing research in the human rights and technology field. She is affiliated with Harvard's Berkman Klein Center and Project Director at the Institute for Technology & Society of Rio de Janeiro (ITS).

Ciro Eduardo Ferreira is a Brasília-based Diplomat at the Division of Digital Affairs at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Brazil as of 2020. Elisabeth Sylvan

Dr. Elisabeth (“Lis") Sylvan is the Managing Director of the Berkman Klein Center for Internet & Society at Harvard University. Dr. Sylvan’s lifelong interest is in sociotechnical systems that support creativity, shared knowledge, and collaboration.  At BKC she oversees the operations of all efforts outside of independent faculty projects, leads a variety of educational and research initiatives on youth, technology and learning, and spearheads new educational programs such as the Digital Self Determination project and  Research Sprints. Previously Lis was the Vice President of Education at  The Tech Interactive in Silicon Valley and a Research Scientist at the education R&D firm, TERC. Dr. Sylvan holds a Master's and PhD from the MIT Media Lab.

Franziska Poszler is a PhD student and research associate at the Chair of Business Ethics at the Technical University of Munich, Germany. She works in an interdisciplinary team on the research project "Autonomous Driving Ethics", which investigates how to incorporate ethical decision-making into the logic of automated vehicles. In her doctoral thesis, she explores implementation possibilities and the admissibility of operationalizing/implementing ethical theories within technologies. Kari Laumann

Kari Laumann is project manager for the Norwegian Data Protection Authority’s (NDPA) Regulatory Sandbox for Privacy and AI. The sandbox is one of several initiatives in the Norwegian Government’s National Strategy for AI where the aim is to stimulate innovative and responsible AI. Laumann has several years of experience from the NDPA as a social scientist with a focus on strategy, analysis and policy development. She led the work with the report on AI and privacy that the NDPA launched in 2018.

Micaela Mantegna

Known as the “Abogamer”, Micaela Mantegna is a lawyer and activist specialized in video games and XR policy, artificial creativity and AI ethics.

Currently a TED Fellow and an affiliate at the Berkman Klein Center at Harvard, her research focuses on metaverse ethics and governance; generative artificial intelligence, creativity and copyright. She was part of the external red team that contributed to evaluate OpenAI’s DALL·E 2 Preview and her TED talk, “How to stop the metaverse from becoming the internet's bad sequel” has gathered over 400k views.

She has authored several articles and papers at the intersection of gaming, ethics, XR, creativity and artificial intelligence. Her first book "ARTficial: creativity, artificial intelligence and copyright" is currently on press, forthcoming September 2022.

Professor of the Master's and Doctorate program in Law at IDP-Brasilia. She has been a public servant since 2007, part of Anatel's career as a Specialist in Regulation of Public Telecommunications Services. She has held different management positions at the Ministry of Communications-MC and at the Ministry of Science, Technology, Innovations and Communications-MCTIC, where she coordinated the elaboration of the Brazilian Strategy for Digital Transformation and the first formulation of the Brazilian Strategy for Artificial Intelligence. Member of the Senate Jurists Committee for drafting a bill on Artificial Intelligence. She is currently Director of the National Data Protection Authority-ANPD.

Nina Desgranges

At Youth and Media Sandra collaborates closely with talented young people (ages 12-18) and engages with researchers in the field who share an interest in exploring innovative ways to understand, evaluate, and shape current and future social challenges emerging in the digital world. Sandra’s current work focuses on (interconnected) areas of youth’s life, including information quality and the news ecosystem; well-being; risks to safety and privacy; the future of work, digital skills, and lifelong learning; emerging technologies (e.g., AI, AR, VR); and spaces for youth participation, civic engagement, and innovation.

Sarah Newman

Sarah Newman is Director of Art & Education at metaLAB at Harvard, at the Berkman Klein Center for Internet & Society. Working at the intersection of research and art, her work engages with technology’s role in human experience. In addition to her art practice, she is also an educator, and leads creative workshops to address interdisciplinary research problems. Newman's work has been exhibited in New York, San Francisco, Berlin, Rome, and London, and she has held artist residencies in Germany, Sweden, and Italy. Her research in Artificial Intelligence and related technologies investigates how emerging technologies embed and mirror historical social and ethical challenges. She is Co-Founder of the Data Nutrition Project, which designs tools and practices for responsible AI development. Newman holds a BA in Philosophy from Washington University in St. Louis and an MFA in Imaging Arts from the Rochester Institute of Technology. Newman was a 2017 AI Grant Fellow, a 2018 & 2021 Harvard Assembly Fellow, a 2018-2020 Fellow at the Royal Society of Art, a 2019 Rockefeller AI Bellagio Resident, and the 2019-2020 artist-in-residence at Northeastern University’s School of Law. She is a current grantee of the National Endowment for the Arts working on a project at the intersection of technology and criminal justice.

Shaun Pather

Shaun Pather is Professor and Chair of the Department of Information Systems, and the Deputy Dean for Research in the Faculty of Economic and Management Sciences at the University of the Western Cape.  He is an NRF-rated researcher and Fulbright Scholar whose expertise and associated praxis concern the advancement of the Information Society in developing societal contexts. His work focuses on the design and deployment of ICT-facilitated interventions to advance societal and economic objectives across developing counties. In this regard, Shaun has been involved in several proof of concept interventions to deliver digital divide solutions to marginalized communities.  He has published widely on ICT for Development (ICT4D), E-Government and IT Evaluation and is currently an advocate for the perpetuation of human rights within the application of emerging 4IR innovation.

Susan E. Hendrickson

Susan E. Hendrickson is Executive Director of the Berkman Klein Center for Internet & Society at Harvard and a Lecturer at Harvard Law School. Her work focuses on emerging and disruptive technology and its implications for democracy, human rights and the public interest. Her experience tackling complex legal, commercial, and public policy issues in emerging tech spans three decades and encompasses a wide array of technologies, including social media, AI, communications and networking technologies, autonomous systems, biotech, fintech, digital education, semiconductors, Web 3.0, and AR/VR/XR technologies.  Sue serves on the board of Human Rights First and as an advisor to its Innovation Lab. Prior to Berkman Klein, Sue was a partner at Arnold & Porter, where she co-headed the Technology and Life Sciences Transactions practices. She is a graduate of Harvard College, Harvard Law School and Harvard Kennedy School, and was an editor on the Harvard Law Review.

Vanessa Gonçalves de Almeida Rosa

Vanessa Rosa is a US based Brazilian visual artist and art historian. Her work merges physical and digital media into a storytelling continuum. Murals become portals to an imaginary world with projection mapping, ceramics metamorphose into living entities with the aid of AI models. She creates fictional tales about world history, past and possible futures intertwined. Vanessa is one of the organizers of Mars College, an educational program, R&D lab, and off-grid residential community dedicated to cultivating a low-cost, high-tech lifestyle. She is also the creator of Little Martians, a sci-fi universe merging ceramics, 3d scans and AI.

Acts as Principal Privacy Researcher at Unico, IDTech pioneer and leader in digital identity solutions in Brazil. She is MC/MPA Ford Foundation Mason Fellow at the Ash Center for Democratic Governance and Innovation at Harvard University (USA) and was also a member of TikTok's Security Advisory Board in Brazil.
